Blab #27 - Boneyard Blab, Blab #27 - Tuesday, 17th November, 1998

Useless fact of the day:

Kermit the Frog has 11 points on his collar around his neck.

Ain't that the coolest bit of info you've ever gotten ? huh ? yeah ? no ? Ok, maybe not. Bleh.

Anyways, as the "topic" suggests, I will be blabbing away about the Boneyard again. This time, I will try and make a "wishlist". Listing all that I'd want from BY when it's ready sometimes early next year. We could all maybe discuss it on the Gnug message board, and have 315 put it up on the main page so everyone could see it.

Fast servers:
This is ofcourse obvious, but pivotal if Cavedog/BY has any hopes in becoming a major player on the field.
Direct IP options, nicely implemented:
Whether or not the servers are great or bad, I would still want the option of being able to play vs. someone through direct IP. And maybe they could even make extra support for it, rooms and a special interface enabling you to do this easily. One could imagine that if you created an IP room, the room would search and find your current IP, and those who joined wouldn't really see the IP itself, but their BY client would know, and the game would launch, and we'd all end up in the good ol' TA battle room. Something like that.
This would most likely be separate from the server area/rooms, since I would assume that the auto-rankings/auto-reporting would not be possible with the direct IP option.
Anti-Cheat measures:
This is an obvious must, and altough I doubt that it's possible to keep it 100% Trainer/Cheat/Pad Free, they can atleast do their best, and keep a vigilant eye on the situation, and send patches out regularly, rendering cheats obsolete, and maybe even have features and programs with anti-cheat measures.
Easy desktop implementation:
In this, I mean that the BY client should be easy to tab out of and multi-task with. Nice interface, and both full-screen and window option. Smart-fit, especially with such external programs as ICQ. (This is however interesting. If they would allow external programs like ICQ, I guess they would enable people to use trainers and cheats on the side aswell. If they chose not allowing having things in the back and on the side simultaneously, that could perhaps eliminate a lot of the cheating problems. However, I'm not an expert on these matters, but I WANT MY ICQ !!!!!! :)
Perhaps they could construct a sort of "Internal ICQ" of a sort, but I for one would like to have the freedom to move around rather than just be limited to staring at the BY.

Well, I'm sure I will think about more along the way, but these 4 are the most immediate that come to my mind, and I would think most ideas that are coming along the way are more specific and detailed. But nevertheless, important. So let's all sign up for the Beta and pour Cavedog with great ideas, and emphasize on the important issues. And hey ! Let's Blab about them ideas on the Gnug message board :)

Ok, something special coming in here. I got it in an Email from a Non-Gnug, and it's hilarious, especially if it works, like it did for me. Just do what it reads, don't hold any particular predjudice or anything, just go with the flow, read carefully, follow the instructions that it gives you, try and make it so u only see one line at the time, and Arrow Down to the next, and you should end up with a surprize or 2 :)

Here goes:

This little Gnug mind trick is kinda freaky, till you think about it a little while. Then it's even more weird. Just follow the instructions below:

DON'T scroll down too fast-do it slowly and follow the instructions below exactly, do the math in your head as fast as you can. It may help to say the answers aloud quietly.

FOLLOW these instructions one at a time and as QUICKLY as you can!

What is:

  • 2 + 2?
  • 4 + 4?
  • 8 + 8?
  • 16+16?
  • Quick! Pick a number between 12 and 5.
  • Got it?
  • Now scroll down...
  • The number you picked was 7, right?
  • Isn't that weird???

Free will or synaptic wiring? You be the judge. Check out the following exercise, guaranteed to freak you out. There's no trick or surprise. Just follow these instructions, and answer the questions one at a time and as quickly as you can! Again, as quickly as you can but don't advance until you've done each of them...really. Now, ARROW down (but not too fast, (you might miss something)...

What is:

  • 1 + 5?
  • 2 + 4?
  • 3 + 3?
  • 4 + 2?
  • 5 + 1?
  • Now repeat saying the number 6 to yourself as fast as you can for 15 seconds. Then scroll down.
  • QUICK!!! THINK OF A VEGETABLE! Then arrow down.
  • Keep going.
  • You're thinking of a carrot right?

If not, you're among the 2% of the population whose minds are warped enough to think of something else. 98% of people will answer with carrot when given this exercise. Freaky, huh?

Here is another one DON'T CHEAT BY SCROLLING DOWN FIRST! It only takes 30 seconds. Work this out as you read. Don't read the bottom until you've worked it out!

  1. First of all, pick the number of days a week that you would like to eat out.
  2. Multiply this number by 2.
  3. Add 5.
  4. Multiply it by 50.
  5. If you have already had your birthday this year add 1748. If you haven't, add 1747.
  6. Last step: Subtract the four digit year that you were born.

SEE BELOW

You should now have a three digit number:
The first digit of this was your original number (i.e. how many times you want to go out each week). The second two digits are your age!!! This is the only year (1998) it will ever work, so spread the fun around while it lasts.

Well, I have heard of a few who have deviated from the little tricks. (The last one is just a standard math trick, but the first 2 are really something else) On a side note, I can mention that I for one got all of these 3 right. Right being that I got a 7 and a Carrot on the first 2, and the age bit fit too. :)

Many people have however missed out, especially on the vegetable area. We've had Potatoes, cabbage, cucumbers, tomatoes, lettuce, and even Apples and bananas. (Yes, I know, they're fruits, but that goes to show how much this thing can mess with some peoples minds, hehe)

In the number department, we've had as far off figures as 3 and 17 :) I'm pretty sure that it's simplistic synaptic wiring, but one can't help but feel like a led sheep when falling STRAIGHT into the "trap". As a comfort, however, there's some consolation in the fact that it's normal to guess as suggested, and people who don't pick the "right" thing have rather warped minds :)

Well, that was all the Gnug mind trickery for now. Until the next time, stay sane ! Muaaaaahahahahahahahahahaaaa..... *cough choke*
