Useless fact of the day:
In Disney's "Fantasia", the Sorcerer's name is "Yensid" (Disney backwards).
So, those pesky darn cameras, capturing me off guard. Or... forcing me to pose in an untimely manner for... well, basically, the entire Internet. RAAAAAAAAAAAAA I say !!!!
Anyways, some time back there was a little get-together at the cyber café that Gnug315 is the manager of.
So how was it ? Great of course, what else did you expect? All those nice people getting together over a powerful LAN, just having a good ol' time. There's something really nice, and at the same time funny about meeting people that you know well, but haven't seen before. I mean, these people are your friends, but you've never seen them. Strangest thing.
However, when they start taking pics of you ??? RAAAAAAAAA I say !
Raa raaaaa...
Ok, so I didn't come on here to just talk about how much I hate cameras. The GLE was primarily what I was gonna Blab about, but raaaaa, those cameras. Arg, I mean, there were like Six cameras in that place. *groan*
Back to the GLE. It was a really nice event, just too bad I couldn't stay more than ˝ whole day, and 2 half ones. *groan* The reason being that I was still in the Military... I mean, on that secret mission I told you all about :). It took me seven long months, but now I'm back. So I'm hoping to be able to spend a lot more time online, and boil around there. This is, ofcourse, also the main reason why there haven't been so many Blabs of late. I'm hoping they will increase in numbers now, but I can't promise much.
Anyways, the GLE... I think one could write an entire book about the subject of meeting online friends for the first time. I for one, being excessively shy, had a hard time with it, but on the other side, really wanted to meet them. So what I did, was that when I came to the café, unnoticed, I slipped myself into a corner on some obscure computer, and hid there for a while. Logged onto mIRC, and said hi to them in #gnug.
But it didn't take Liam and Zrbt to find out, that the IP where I was sitting was remarkably similar to theirs. So they started stalking the café, cornered me, and POW. No Escape. They then went on to DRAG me in to meet all the others. And if there's ANYTHING I loaaaathe more than having my picture taken, then it's introductions. But well, being the nice friends that they were, they forced me to do it, in spite of my reluctant hesitation.
But... What is it then, which makes me hate having my picture taken so much? Well, it's hard to tell. First off, I would ofcourse connect it to the the fact that I'm a rather shy Gnug for various reasons, and I'm also not particularly fond of my looks, and don't go about "Showing myself off" like many people do.
Not that one necesarily likes to show oneself off if one doesn't dislike cameras. One situation where I don't mind them, is where I (or we) stage something, some sort of gag or setting. But when that isn't the case, then it just feels, to me, as being a bit false. Unless, the "victim" doesn't know that his/her pic is being taken, and therefore is totally natural. If, however, one notices the lense aiming at one, it's an altogether different situation. That's when it all becomes a lot more... well... "false" really. A bit of a fake setup, like an ad for oneself or something, showing from one's best side.
Ach, it just seems so... arg. And I get oooverly shy when a lens is aiming at me... waaaah
Moving right along now...
Just a little note to all the people who have been so nice, and sent us Gnugs an essay, in the wish to become a Git. Now that I'm back from my secret mission, and have some more time on my hands, I've put myself in charge of replying to all the mails that have come in, since we opened the gates on June the third. I know it will be a very late reply for some... Most, but the intent, I think, was never really to reply to them, but just announce how it fared in #gnug. But many never really came in there, and then, being the loose group that we are, there was never any Gnug appointed official replier of essay emails. But they were all read, have no doubt about that. But now I will make sure that there's a response to every email there is, and they will all be individually taken care of.
The reason why one was picked to be a Git in the first round of selection, was that it simply touched us all in such a way that we couldn't dismiss it. But now that I mention "round of selection", you migt be thinking: "oh, so I was rejected", but that's not how it works. You've sent your essay, we've read it, you've shown your interest, and we've been made aware of that. Now in my emails I'm mostly advicing people to come visit us in #gnug, and see how things work in there. Some have been there, some vist regularly, which is nice. Because one doesn't become a Gnug just like that, and the essay was mostly a chance for us to get to know people, besides just meeting them on the battlefield, or briefly on a Gaming Service.
So instead of holding trials or something, dismissing people and such, we preferred to get to know people, and see how things fared. In the process, we would hope to have gained new friends, and that everyone got a good experience from it. Having fun while moving towards the end goal.
Ah well, until the next time, take care and stay cool !
Gnug215 :)
